WELCOME TO MACKAY AND THE BEAR BOTTOM INN!

Mackay, Idaho is home to Idaho's nine highest mountain peaks and is often called the "Top of Idaho." We are so proud of our majestic landscape that allows people to come from far and wide to fish its rivers, climb its mountains and travel its trails. Some do it by snowmachine or ATV and some do it on horseback or foot. Whichever means of travel you sport, we hope you enjoy the land around us and the people who live here. We are known as a community that sticks together through thick and thin. It is this spirit that built this little town through its mining and ranching roots. Please take a little of that spirit home with you, and we hope you'll come back and visit us again soon.

Bear Bottom Inn is housed in a 100 year old building that was once a Basque Boarding house. The dilapidated building, which had been vacant for many years, was purchased in 1994 by Barbara and Fred Chaffin and their daughter, Margaret Van Orden, the current proprietor ... who still can't do without Mom's boundless energy. Thanks to the help of countless friends and family members, a new kitchen was added to the back of the building, motel units were built and a vision of the Bear Bottom Inn became a reality. It is a collborative spirit that built this place and fills these rooms. The spirit of those who are now gone and missed, combined with the spirit of those who regularly gather here, create the warmth that lives in what we call the "Bear Bottom."

We invite you to be another of our many friends and to truly enjoy our western hospitality.
